The year is 2019 and the name of the new post in the College of Literature and Communication is “Dj Professor” at the University of Bombay.
The appointment is to be announced on August 30.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Prof. A.V. Nandakumar, a renowned Indian scholar who has received a prestigious Diploma of Arts from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and is currently teaching in our Department of Indian Studies.
We are confident that Prof. Nandi will bring a unique perspective and expertise to the teaching of Indian literature,” said Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Director, Centre for Indian Studies, JNU.
According to the JNUSU website, the College has a total of 16,723 full-time and part-time faculty members.
The current head of the College, Prof. K.S. Ramachandran, is also the president of the Delhi School of Art.
The appointment of a “DJ Professor” has attracted a lot of attention from media organisations in India and internationally.
The JNUs administration said that the College had invited the eminent scholar to its campus in the city and the appointment was approved on the condition that Prof A. V. Nandsh Kumar, a JNUM-Bharat Vidyarthi Parishad (JVPV) scholar and member of the Indian Research Council of India (IRCI), be his principal mentor.
Prof. Nandan Kumar is also a member of JNVM and the vice-chancellor of JVPV.
Nandakumars “Diversity and inclusion in the University” project, a project designed to attract more women to the Indian Institutes of Technology, was launched in 2015.
Dr. Vaidyanathan said the new position would be a good opportunity to work on “strengthening the understanding of Indian Literature, Indian Culture and Indian Literature at the undergraduate and graduate levels”.
