A new way to become an online professor is being touted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science as a way to boost the nation’s STEM education.
The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAAS) said it will develop a system for online professors to hire students and staff through its online recruiting platform.
The system will be overseen by a newly created “student hiring committee” and will consist of a professor, one or more other faculty members, a recruitment agency and the individual hiring company, said an announcement by the AAAS.
The new hiring committee will determine what types of jobs to apply for and which professors to recruit, the announcement said.
The hiring committee, which will be chaired by the director of the AAIS, will be responsible for recruiting candidates for a variety of positions including online professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and graduate students.
The AAAS also said that it is committed to developing and enhancing a system to support hiring and retention of qualified, high-quality online professors in the United States.
It also announced that the organization will partner with several universities to develop online training programs for online students.
